AN AMAZING DISPLAY Colossal Wealth Displayed at Mannequin Parade A MEMORABLE OCCASION. [ By Telegraph—Per Press Assn. —Copyright ] Received April 20, 10.30 p.m. (A. & N.Z.) LONDON, April 19. London’s most amazing mannequin parade was held in the ballroom at a West End hotel to demonstrate that a lovely gown should be designed to be worn with magnificent jewellery. For this purpose Messrs Ballot and Sours’ combined with the National Jewellers’ Association. Outside half-a-dozen uniformed policemen were stationed and 20 special detectives from Scotland Yard* mingled with the exclusive crowd inside. The value of the precious stones was set down at £1,000,000, and the collection included some of the world’s most famous jewels. A pearl necklace was valued at £lOO,OOO, an emerald necklace at £45,000, and a diamond bracelet at £16,000. The world’s largest opal was worn as a buckle. The entire collection was carefully weighed, measured and photographed beforehand as a precaution. There was a thrill when a mannequin appeared wearing the £50,000 necklace sensationally stolen in France. It was a memorable occasion, and will be commemorated on canvas.
