TO-DAY’S CURTAIN-RAISER Seven-a-side Tournament on Spriggens Park (By “Cross-Bar”). The opening of the 1928 Rugby season will take place on Spriggens Park to-day. when seventeen teams from clubs in the Wanganui Metropolitan Sub-Union will engage in a seven-a-side tournament for the honour of holding for a season the coveted Bijou Cup. With the tang of winter in the air, supporters of the Dominion’s national game are looking forward to the approaching season with pleasant anticipations, eagerly waiting to follow the fortunes of teams and of individual players. To-day’s games, staging Rugby of the fast open order, will provide a fitting curtain-raiser to what promises to be a record season, in the Wanganui districts.
