SAVING PETROL

EXTRA AIR SWITCH OFF DESCENDING HILLS Under ordinary conditions petrol consumption will be high .if on downward gradients th c throttle is left open and the engine switched off. The conventional method pf descending a hill is to take the foot off the accelerator and to leave the ignition switch on. By this means only very small charges are introduced into tlu combustion chambers —charges so small that they give no power —so that it makes little difference whether ignition is switched on or offIf you arc anxious to get low petrol consumption your best course is to fit an extra-air valve, and to open this when descending hills; by this means practically all suction is removed from the jets when running downhill, so that no petrol is evaporated.
