WENDY’S LITTLE DRESSMAKERS
My Dear Children, If you can get a short length of silk or* woollen material —about a yard and three-quarters, double-width—-you’ll be able to make a dear “pull-over” jumper, like the one the sketch. You must measure across from sido to side, and take a piece of material four inches wider than this measurement, and twice your length from youf shoulder to just below your waist. Diagram A —scooping out a wee piece for the neck, and just a little under the arms. Open out, and cut down in a narrow V for the front of the neck.
The sleeves come next; these are just straight pieces of stuff, the length of your arm from shoulder to wrist, and cut to fit the small slccve-beginnimzs each side of the jumper. Join the
sleeves on tn the shoulders of the jumper, then sew up the neck edge, and neaten it on the under side with a scrap of ribbon binding; then turn in the sleeve and bottom edges in the same way* Now for the* best part—the trimming! This consists ot rows of stem-j stitching in different coloured silks or wools, worked close together round neck, cuffs, and jumper edge as explained in Diagram B (Diagram 0 shows you how to do stem-stitch, in case you don’t know.) Make the stitches quite tighr round the sleeve edges, then they will give the effect of cuffs. On a blue jumper, black, | orange, and scarlet, st.tching will HH bright and jolly, the 'lose rows ! a braided appearance that is tractive. Wei dy ’«
