WOMEN IN THE CHURCH
BISHOP WELDON’S VIEWS ADMISSION TO OFFICES FAVOURED. (A/P.A.-Sun) LONDON, Alarch 29. “What St. Paul said about women cannot justly be regarded as determining the church’s policy for all time,’ says Bishop Weldou, commenting on the objections to ordaining women. “It is idle to assert that women’s function is to be good wives and mothers. Women have not only outnumbered men, but many men shrink from marriage because it is an expensive problem. Finding careers for educated women is even more insistent. If the State treats women and men on a basis of equality the Church will not always be able to keep women on a basis of inferiority. There is not sufficient reason for denying them holy orders. “A woman’s ministry would benefit the Church spiritually, especially when male candidates arc diminishing.. The time is coming , and perhaps it is not far off, when woman *s oralnation will be an accomplished fact. ’ ’
