A SURPLUS
FIRST FOR THREE YEARS BRITAIN'S FINANCIAL IMPROVEMENT. (By Radio). RUGBY, Alarch 28. The financial year which ends next Saturday will almost certainly close with a surplus of revenue over expenditure for the first time for three years.
The Treatsury returns for last week, with a revenue of £31,000,000, showed a surplus of nearly £9,000,000. The total revenue for the.year now exceeds £858,000.000, while the expenditure to date is £600,000 less than that. At the corresponding date of last year the expenditure was higher and the revenue lower, and there was a deficit of over £37,000,000.
During the past year the death duties have yielded £7,000,000 more than the estimates. The floating debt was reduced last week by over £1.000.000.
