DOUBTFUL PACKING
CHINESE FINED EUROPEANS WARNED [ Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON, March 30. Failure to pack sacks of potatoes in such a way as to give a fair idea of the size, maturity and condition of the contents was alleged against Sun Hing Lee, market gardener, Ohau. A fruit inspector gave evidence that accused had already received a warning for a previous offence. T.he inspector said that the effect of another offender being fined recently was quickly reflected on the Wellington market in the general improvemnt in the packing of vegetables. The Chinese said the inspectors, were not the only offenders, and several warning notices had been sent to European market gardeners.
Counsel for the defendant said that the actual packing was carried out by Maoris under the supervision of another Chinese. A fine of £.lO was imposed.
