EGGS FROM CANADA

A BIG SHIPMENT AUCKLAND PRICES AFFECTED [ Special ‘•laicmicir Servlc*;. f AUCKLAND. March 28. The arrival of a consignment of some 10,500 dozen eggs from Canadian firms by the liner Aorangi, was chiefly responsible for a fall < f between Id and 2d a dozen in the price of hen eggs at the Auckland city market to-day. The eggs were brought over in cool storage and landed in excellent condition. The shipment has come as rather an unpleasant surprise to local producers. At this time of the year, with the approach of Easter, the* price of eggs goes up as a general rule, and the producer can usually rely on selling his eggs? to good advantage. If, however, the market is disturbed by importations, his calculations are unexpectedly upset, and the period upon which he mar have relied to make up past losses becomes unprofitable. Lt is not yet known at the markets how the venture was organised, as it is quite an innovation. It is clear that the Canadian farmer is able to land eggs here very cheaply, since otherwise the enterprise would hardly have been attempted.
