CAR GOES OVER BANK AN INVALID S DEATH I Per press Association.) PALMERSTON N., MARCH 28. An inquest was held this . morning into the death of Alfred Carl Butzbach, aged 46, who was killed in a motoring accident on Saturday.
Evidence was given that when on a steep hill near Oakautere, deceased’s hat blew off and the car was stopped to regain it. It was then found that tho engine would not start. Deceased an invalid, was removed from the front seat to secure tools. When the adjustments had been made deceased was put back into the car. While the driver was walking round the front of the vehicle to the driving side the car moved backwards and went over a steep bank, tailing 25 feet, deceased suffering a broken back. When the driver left the car the gears were in neutral and the brakes on.
Examined later the hand brake was not on and the gears were engaged. It is presumed that deceased in adjusting a, rug dislodged the brakes. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
