A London message reports the death at the age of 62 of Air Leslie Stuart, organist and composer.

The engagement is announced from London of the Hon. Victor Hood to Airs Violet Alcßean, of New South Wales.

Detective-Sergeant Issel, who was stationed in Wanganui as a mounted constable some 20 years ago, was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday.

Air G. A. Thompson, 8.A., has been appointed assistant junior master on the staff of the Wanganui Technical College and Aliss D. Solberg has joined the staff as assistant commercial mistress.

Air H. J. D. Alahon, at present act-ing-headmaster, has been appointed head,master of the Auckland Grammar School, in succession to the late Air. J. Drummond. Both Air Drummond and Air Alahon were pupils of the school.

The death occurred on Sunday last at the Wanganui Public Hospital of Air William Edward Alarsh, aged 57, eldest son of the late Sergeant-Major H. T. Alarsh, of the Armed Constabulary. He was an old resident of Wanganui. Deceased joined the sth. South African Contingent, was invalided, but re-en-listed with the 6th., serving with that body to the end of its term, lie was a keen member of the South African Veterans’ Association. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, when there was a large assemblage of relatives and friends to pay tribute to his memory. Among those present were the Alayor, South African Veterans, and Air Chas. Peapell, one of the few surviving members of the Armed Constabulary, who had served with deceased’s father, and also a large number of Maori friends, with whom deceased was most popular. The Rev. Father Campbell conducted the services at St. Mary ’s Church and at the graveside. Deceased was a widower, and leaves a family of three sous and two daughters.
