NOTES AND COMMENTS Commendation rejoins George .Tones' active brigade at the end of April. Twink is fairly well at present, and liable to win a race at any time. Rapier may be taken over for the Sydney spring meetings. The absence of Ruffles from racing is due to wind troubles, and he was operated on last week.

Son o’ Mine may be hunted during the winter. If qualified he may win a hunters’ steeplechase.

Acceptances for the Hororata Racing Club’s annual meeting close to-night at 8 p.m. Red Heather can go fast and fly hurdles in great style, but he does not go far enough. Laughing Prince has won £4OOO in stakes. He cost Mr T. A. Duncan 1000 guineas as a yearling. The total weight of the four aluminium plates worn by Star Stranger is »z. Valkon and Pegaway are two handi•ap performers in Auckland who are worth noting down. Nucleus has won over £7OO in stakes since sold at 100 guineas at the Auckland Cup bloodstock sales. Star Stranger II has a good turn of speed, and, as she looks open to improvement, should soon win a race.

Just So, the half-sister by Chief Ruler to Kiosk, is said to be showing some galloping ability, and may have a run in the late autumn.

The handicaps for the opening day of the Riverton R.C.’s meeting will be issued on the morning after the Southland R.C.’s fixture this week.

After Mountain Bell blundered and unseated McDonald on the second day at Bulls, it was decided to retire her from racing.

The progeny of Acre raced prominently at Rangitikei, and his stock have now filled 105 places in races this sea-

Bright Glow's Easter engagements are uncertain. If the Auckland weights suit, J. Fryer may take her to Ellerslie instead of Feilding. Circulation is very well at present, and her brilliant finishing effort, which landed her in third place in the Oamaru Flying Handicap, makes her look a likely sort for an early win. Vast Acre is a fairly good class sprinter when it comes to racing at minor meetings. How she will stand against “town hall” company remains to be seen. Vivo is a disappointing animal. On the first day at Bulls nothing was ever Bear her, but on the second day when collared at the turn she subsided without a struggle.

O. Cox has decided to race Reremoana and Lady Desmond at Riccarton Mt Easter ami he will also enter Barryknder for minor events. J. Barry will jo south end do the riding.

Footfall (second), Rapier, and Front Rank represent last year's field in the Great Autumn Handicap who are included in the acceptance list for this year's event.

Rapier, when the last mail left Sydney, was in the second line on the

double chart. His Sydney Cup chance was thus rated highly by the bookmakers, but he is not likely to trouble the Sydney layers a great deal this autumn.

The three-year-old gelding Mananui, by Songbird—Goldfire, burst a blood vessel when running in the Crown Stakes Handicap at Otautau last Wednesday. He ought to be given a spell, as this is his second "offence” of late. Rumoured that at the end of the month Mr W. G. Stead will be vacating the training quarters at Greenmeadows for so long occupied by his team. Some good ones have gone forth to battle from the establishment. Good as Gold is bowling along freely tn her work, which is generally kept well within her powers and restricted to nice pacing tasks, with a burst home in the straight. She seems to be very well and in good shape to run up to form. The catalogue of William Inglis and Son s yearling sale. Randwick, at Easter time, is to hand. It contains no fewe rthan 425 lots, including those of j Mr Ernest Alison, who has four lots, • and apparently i s the only New Zealand breeder represented.

At the end of the month, Mr Frank Ormond is going to increase his team by the inclusion of three rising two-year-olds in the shape of geldings bv Lord Quex. out of Earthshine and Birkelot, and a filly by LackhamHvmartv.

Tiega is showing signs of the conflict that he met with at Trenthani recently, and although he is included in the equines weighted for the Masterton meeting it seems to be a certainty that he will not journey away from his quarters this week to Masterton.

Shirley, Set Sail, and Booster, last year's place-getters in the Great Easter Handicap, figure in the acceptance list for the forthcoming event. Nincompoop is the only other prospective contestant who competed in the race twelve months ago.

Royal Acre was a*bit unlucky not to win a race at the Rangitikei meeting. This Acre gelding is out of a Euroclydon mare, who is sister to Hautere, a first-class steeplechaser a few years back, and as it is intended to try Royal Acre over hurdles, he should, on the score of breeding, make good at the jumping game.

Limerick made his reappearance under silk in Australia last Saturday, when he again accounted for the Rawson Stakes. Last year he registered an attractive performance in the same race when he defeated a select trio in Windbag. Valicare and Amounis. The value of the win on that occasion was £470.

Vespcrus looked bright and healthy at Rangitikei. He ran a fair race the first day, when W. S. Bagby rode him, but on the second day when he had a light boy up he was never prominent. Vespcrus takes some riding, and in the near future in races where a strong horseman can take the mount he should be running prominently.

A pleasing acceptor in the Great Easter Handicap is Reremoana, who heads the list with 9.9. In last year's event he was weighted at 10.5, but was not accepted for. Reremoana is also engaged in the Challenge Stakes on the second day. and his meeting with The Hawk. Eulalie, Cimabue, Concentrate and Goblin Market will furnish one of the tit-bits of the meeting. Limerick’s Programme.

Limerick's engagements at the A.J.C. Autumn Meeting include the All-aged Stakes (one mile) and Cumberland Stakes (two miles) on the third day. It was generally anticipated that Limand Trivalve would meet in the lastmentioned race, but at present Limerick is more likely to take part in the Allaged Stakes. “I was of opinion that the Cumberland Stakes was sure to be Limerick’s w.f.a. mission on the third day of the A.J.C. meeting, but from what I have learnt from that horse’s trainer (F. D. Jones) the All-aged Stakes is more likely to be the race chosen for him (writes "Pilot”). It all depends upon how he fares at a mile and a quarter at Warwick Farm, and nine furlongs at Rosehill. If he acquits himself satisfactorily in those, the All-aged Stakes may be given preference to the Cumberland Stakes, for two reasons—one that it is a more valuable prize, and the other that, as Limerick 's owner has the King’s Cup in view, the mile is considered less likely to take the edge off his pace than the longer i distance. ’ 1

FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB CORRECTED WEIGHTS FOR EASTER In the list of weights for the first day of the Feilding Jockey Club’s Easter meeting, Eameses was shown at 7.13 in the Ongo Hack. This should have been 8.13.

In the Mangaone Handicap, Arrow Lad was listed at 8.5 instead of 7.5 the correct weight.
