BY PLANE

AUCKLANDERS’ FLIGHT BOUND FOR SOUTH ISLAND. sSJs. [ Per Preet Association. ) HAMILTON, Alarch 27.

A Haviland Aloth ’plane recently purchased by Air Douglas Mill, of Auckland, reached here to-day. Air Mill left Auckland this morning with the intention of reaching Christchurch by nightfall but while nearing the Waikato Heads a storm approached and he was forced to fly further inland. As the benzine supply was becoming exhausted he camo down here. “I realise that through this delay I have no chance of reaching the South Island to-day,” said Air Alill, “so we intend continuing our flight to Hawera, where we shall stop with friends for the night.’’ Asked whether he would go to Christchurch to-morrow, Air Alill said he was not sure—a great deal depended on whether the Aloth was incapable of standing up to heavy weather. Air Alill hopped off again at 1.30.

AT HAWER,

STAY OVERNIGHT. [ Per Press Association. 1 HAWERA, Alarch 27. Flying a Aloth two-seater ’plane from Auckland to Christchurch, Air Douglas Alill, accompanied by his wife, arrived here at 4 p.m. to-day. If the weather is suitable the journey is being continued in the morning, probably as far as Blenheim.

Leaving Tamaki at 9.57 a.m., AJill had intended to refill the petrol tanks here and continue as far as Blenheim to-day, but he was delayed by heavy winds and rain over the Waikato district, with the result that he landed at Hamilton an hour and twenty minutes after leaving Auckland. The flight was resumed at 1.35 p.m. into a stiff south-westerly wind, Hawera being reached in two hours and twenty-five minutes.
