WANGANUI MUSEUM
ADDITIONAL SPECIMENS COINS AND RARE BIRDS. During his tour of England, Franc# and Canada, Air R. G. Firth, assistant curator of the Wanganui Aluseum has secured a splendid collection of valuable coins and medals and several specimens of rare birds.
Among the collection is a whole of the new English coinage, which Mr z
Firth says is of beautiful design. The five-shilling piece is a fine piece of work. The coinage has been altered, and on the reverse side of the new coins there is a very lovely design of oak branches and acorns. Unfortunately, Air Firth was unable to obtain a specimen of the new penny, as it was not issued until Alarch, after he had sailed.
The rare English birds Air Firth found very difficult to obtain, but by constant searching he managed to get several fine specimens, including bearded tit and a sand grouse. While in Canada Mr Firth collected some unique specimens of the rarer Canadian birds.
