THE TOWN BRIDGE sir—Yes! Mr J. P. Belcher is qn!f» correct when he states that Mr Henry M'Xeill had the contract for building the Town Bridge, as I remember him very well indee’ He used to.oftcn have a chat with my elder brother ;.nd myself on our way over the bridge (not then finished) to school. I also remember tho late Mr Harry Chadwick, who assisted in collecting the roll. He raced a marc named Flora, ami had a loose box right under the bridge (city side). A few years later that part of the bridge was covered in with clay, etc. The first saddle race that she started in at Wavcrlcy she was ridden by that well-known all round sport Mr Charlie Chavannes. The winner was a gelding named Gazelle, ridden by Mr Campion, who now resides at Aramoho.
lam almost quite sure that the bridge was opened by Governor Bowen. The bridge was in course of erection in 1871. H. H. JACKSON. Brunswick March 26. _____
