The suggestion contained in the Now York cable that two amateur radio stations at Auckland are interfering with communciations between Captain Wilkins at Cape Barrow and ther American tations was ridiculed by Ivan O’Meara, who is constantly working on similar wave-lengths ami has been in actual contact with Captain Wilkins and other stations in Alaska. Whatever difficulty may have been experienced, Mr O’Meara says, is primarily due to Captain Wilkins working outside the recognised American wavelength hand of 37 to 42 metres. New Zealand amateurs operate from 31 *o 36 metres. Therefore there should he no overlapping, even if Captain Wilkins came down to a lower wave length. Mr O’Meara says that it would be nb-urd to suggest that his ignals are seriously interfere.l with. If Captain Wilkins finds that he is on the same wave as one or other of the Auckland stations mentioned he would merely shift his wave slightly one way or the other and that would end the difficulty-
