THE SUPREME PENALTY
MURDERER HANGED PATHETIC MESSAGE FROM WIFE. (A. & N.Z.) VANCOUVER, Hat. 23. George McDonald was hanged at Valley Field at 5.47 this morning. No newspaper men were admitted to the hanging. The murderer mounted the gallows steps firmly. A telegram received at the gaol during tho night from his reprieved wife read: "To-morrow Mass and Communion will be offered. I will never cease to pray for you. May our Blessed Lady receive you at the gate of Heaven.”
Ou reading the message McDonald murmured: "God bless her soul.”
Before the hanging Mass was celebrated and McDonald received Holy Communion. Seventy-five prisoners, officials, and detectives attended the service.
There was a delay of half an hour, the hangman, Ellis, insisting on daylight.
