BALKAN UNREST

HUNGARIANS IN RUMANIA LEAGUE’S TRIBUNAL REJECTEDReceived March 25, 5.5 p.m. (A. & N.Z.) BUCHAREST, March’24. In the absence of M. Titulcscu, owing to an indisposition, a statement was read in the Senate and the Chamber to the effect that the Government refuses to accept the League council’s decision in the Hungarian dispute. It considers that the Arbitral trbunal of five maintains the position approved by the Council in September 1927, which Rumania fulfilled by the generous offer to compensate Hungarian landowners out of reparations due from Hungary. Rumania refuses to admit the right of flic new tribunal to decide a question affecting sovereignty.

The statement was received with enthusiasm in both Houses and a motion of confidence in M. Titulcscu was carried.
