POLITICAL DOINGS FUSION WITH NEWFOUNDLAND? (A. & N.Z.) OTTAWA, March 23. flic proposal for the union of Canada and Newfoundland was endorsed in the Senate to-day. Senator C. E. Capper introduced the resolution, stating that the time was favourable to consider union. He said that he would, like to entertain the vision when not only Newfoundland but the West Indies and all the units of the Empire on this side of the Atlantic would be consolidated into one great Dominion. Senators agreed that the offer must ,come from Newfoundland. Conferring of Titles The question of conferring titles on Canadians is to come before the House of Commons. A motion by Mr C. H. Gahan (Conservative) proposes that a committee of 11 members inquire into the whole question of amending the address to the King of May, 1919. asking for the discontinuation of titles. Wool Tariff Criticised Budget changes in the tariff on woollens brought sharp criticism in the House of Commons. Mr Bennett (Tory Leader) alleged that the tariff seemed to be moulded by Huddersfield and Bradford rather than by Canadians for Canada. Mr Hugh Guthrie expressed resentment at what he termed the interference of Yorkshire mill men. The Hon. J. A. Robb (Minister of Finance) remarked that there was instances where Canadian manufacturers made representations to the British Government, and similar movements had been made by the Governments of South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, in efforts to obtain privileges in
