MAKING OF CASEIN

INDUSTRY IN TARANAKI PLANT TO BE ESTABLISHED For several years past a number of butter factories in North Taranaki have been manufacturing casein curd, which has been sent to the N.Z. Casein Company for drying and marketing, writes our North Taranaki correspondent. This company until recently had one dairy company representative on its directorate, but at a meeting held iu Inglewood it was decided tliat dairy companies should be given another representative, and Mr .1. Brown, chairman of the Maketaua Dairy Company, was appointed to act with Mr J. Shotter, of Midhurst, the other director. Some suppliers of the Midhurst company have not been satisfied that they have been getting the best results under the present system, and as Midhurst supplied the bulk of the curd from North Taranaki it was felt that it. would be in the best interest of suppliers if the Midhurst company erected a drying plant of its own. At a sfejial meeting last week the directors vefre authorised by a five to one vote (11-19 to 227) to take necessary steps to erect a new curd room and easein-drying plant at Midhurst, as w-ell. as a new milk-receiving and separ-ating-room. Midhurst will thus be the first company in Taranaki to erect its own casein-drying plant. The Midhurst factory has just paid its suppliers a bonus of Id over last season’s supply, making the total payout for the season 18.82 d per lb. butterfat. So far this season me factory has paid out Is 4d and 2d for casein, a tota lof Is Gd.
