TEN THOUSAND COSTUMES IN “BEAU SABREUZ”

PLAYERS AT GUADALUPE A crew of twelve members of the wardrobe department in the Paramount studio in Hollywood was sent to Guadalupe, California, to handle the apparel used bv the 1,250 actors and extras in “Beau Sabreur,” which was filmed on the sand dunes near that coastal city. The wardrobe tent was almost as large as the main tent of a circus, and in all 10,560 cosiumes were stored there, besides great bundles of shoes, turbans and flowing robes worn by the Arabs. A similar staff was assigned from the property department, but their work was harder, owing to the greater number of properties which the actors used. There were hundreds of guns, sabres, swords, and daggers; vases, bayonets, great Arabian pillows. Oriental rugs, arrows, saddles and a thousand and one other articles.

Every piece of cloth used in the costumes, and each ‘prop’ carried or worn by the actors was inspected by the technical expert, Louis Van Den Ecker, who has spent seven years on the Sahara in the Foreign Legion. Cary

Cooper and Evelyn Brent head the cast in this production.
