STORM AT SEA
ARAPAWA SEEKS SAFETY VOYAGE FROM KAWHIA INTERRUPTED. The coastal steamer Arapawa, which brought wool from Nukuhakere, near Kawhia, to AVanganui, encountered rough weather last Saturday. The steamer was loading wool at Nukuhakere. which is an open roadstead, when a storm sprang uo one of the surf boats was overturned. A Maori, who had one foot badly injured in the accident, was taken on board and the Arapawa sailed on Sunday for Kawhua, where the injured man was taken to hospital. The loading had not been completed, but as the storm showed no signs of abating, the remaining 68 bales of wool wore left behind. On Tuesday, when the vessel was off Opunake, she received such a buffeting that it was necessary to put back to New Plymouth for safety. After taking on fresh stores and - -atcr she resumed her voyage to Wanganui.
Part of the wool was wet on arrival here, but no other damage was done.
