NEWS AND VIEWS NOTES IN PASSING. (By “Ityhis”) Forthcoming fixtures in the athletic world arc:— March 3.—Bulls. March 5,6, 7 and B.—Pirate junior championships. March 10.—Standen and; Gray electric light sports. March 10.—Waitotara. March 17.—Sandon.

Local interest last week was centred in the annual championships of the Pirate A.A. and C. Club, and the Greatford meeting last Saturday. |Monigatti in Form. At tho city event Alec. Monigatti was in form despite a soreness in an arm. He won the 100yds flat, 120yds hurdles, throwing the discus, pulling the shot and. hop, step and jump in good style. Leu Sexton and B. Solomon were solid opposition, the latter being prominent for his excellent finishes in the distance events. Cycling Star. Dave Adamson had little digculty in capturing the three cycling events in convincing style by good margins. Arthur Olsen was runner-up in each instance. Six Representatives. At Greatford on Saturday, Wanganui was represented by Alec. Tell ar, E. Morgan, Jim. Broad, S. J. Outsell, Jim. Pawson, and Fred Erskine. Telfar and Broad were in the 100 and 440 runs, the former also contesting the furlong. Broad secured a thin! in the 440 after being apparently fouled twice by Ledingham, of Marton. Telfar was second in the 220, being beaten by inches. Pawson (off lOyklsO won the 880yds flat by two yards from Gudsell in 2min 0 4-ssec. over a very rough track. It was a fine performancee. Gudsert was second in the 440, and also seemed to suffer from contact with Ledingham. Bulls Popular. Bulls to-morrow will claim the attention of local athletes and about 20 runners and cyclists will make the trip from Wanganui. Entries for the important Olympic trial meeting on Cook’s GaMens on March 10 marking the return to this [•ity of Jack Standen and Duncan Gray, the Australian cyclists, will close to-morrow with the Centre secretary, Mr Peter Stott. Several local men contemplate making the trip to the meeting at Nelson on April 17. This is an excellent chance to compete against good South Island opponents. The following cyclists will probably make the trip: —D. A. Adamson, 11. Dustin, F. W. Erskine and J. E. Harper
