HAWKE’S BAY CHAMPIONSHIPS. SAVJ.MAIERS IN GOOD FORM. f Per Press A-srcmatun*. t NAPIER, March I.’ The Hawke’s Bay Provincial Swimming championships 'were concluded in the Municipal Baths last night. The principal event of the evening, the 100 yards men’s championship, was won by C. Lound (Napier) by two feet from Richardson (Gisborne) second, ami D. Pink (Gisborne) third. In the 75 yards schoolboys’ chainpionship, G. Gleeson (Napier) and J. Hefferinau (Hastings) dead-heated in 54 4-ssecs. to smash the existing record by 6 2-ssec. Miss N. Stevens (Greenwood School) lowered the 75 yards school girls’ championships afterwards, doing the
distance in 58sec., the previous time being 59sec. She was unpaced through a scarcity of lady swimmers. Miss Simmonds (Napier) put up a splendid performance by shattering the 220 yards ladies’ championship record in the fine time of 3min. 7 3-ssec., the previous record being 3min. 8 2-ssec. The Gisborne'team romped home in the Swain Memorial Cup relay race for ' teams by seven yards from Napier. The winners clipped 4 3-sscc. off the record.
