UNEMPLOYMENT

MR. FRASER’S BILL FIRST READING IN THE HOUSB. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. When the House of Itepresentatives met to-day, on the motion of Air P, Fraser (Wellington Central) the Unemployed Workers Bill was introduced and read a first time. Mr Fraser explained that he did not hope to pass the Bill this session, but he had brought it forward in the hope of stressing the need for some organised effort to meet the unemployed problem during the recess. The Minister had stated last night that there were some 1600 unemployed in the Dominion, and if there were no more the situation was bad enough. He hoped that the efforts of the Government would not be relaxed and that next session there would be Government legislation to put the whole question on a sound footing.
