PRODUCTION
COW’S FINE RECORD. “Never too old to milk” is a slogan that might be well applied to Bonny Bell, the 25-year-old milking Shorthorn cow that was on exhibition at the Manawatu show. This cow, born in 1902, had its first calf in 1904, and the present season will produce its twentyfourth calf. Semi-official tests carried out during the past season have revealed. that this old animal produced. 3751 b of butter-fat in 300 days, which is surely a world’s record for a cow of such an age. The owner, Mr Bell, statec* that for many years he had endeavoured to purchase this animal, and was not successful until three years ago. She had never been pampered, and not even rugged for many years. She had been milked by machines and, during the last few seasons, by hand. She had. never had any special attention. ‘‘There is no record,” added Mr Ben, “of any other cow living to such a great age and producing the same amount of butter-fat when so old.”
