YESTERDAY S SITTING REPORT ON SHIPPING FACILITIES TIES. ( Pcr Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Nov. S 3. The Legislative Council met to-day. The Noxious Weeds and Slaughtering Amendment Bills were reported by the Agricultural and Stock Committee without amendments and put through all stages and passed without diacussion. 'inc Public Service Amendment Bill, Ashley River Improvement Bill And Child Welfare Amendment Bill were received from the House and read a first time, the Public Service Amendment Bill being also read a second time pro forma and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. The Joint South Island-Australia Shipping Facilities Committee reported its opinion that the present arrangement for the Government fruit steamer to call only at Lyttelton was very unsatisfactory, and the Department of External Affairs having admitted that a limited number of trips could be made further south, the Committee suggested that the Maui Pomaro should call at Dunedin at least four tiihes a year so that fruit might be landed in good order and at a reasonable price. The Committee also recommended that in view of the unsatisfactory shipping service between Australia and the South Island, via Bluff, the Government should commence negotiations with the Australian Government with a view to ascertaining if it is not to the interest of both parties to establish a better service. The Council then adjourned.
