ARAMOHO PARK
ASSET TO WANGANUI MOTOR ASSOCIATION AND CITY COUNCIL CONFER Aramoho Park increasingly popular as a camping site for motorists, is a recognised asset to Wanganui. At last night’s meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Automobile Association, two City Coqncil representatives, Councillors A- E. Halligan and Stanley E. Reed waited on the Association to. discuss proposed improvements to the area. Councillor Halligan said that he was keenly interested in the park.' Last year there was a large number of visitors, but he regretted? to say that the facilities at the area were not such as should warrant their patronage. '1 he City Council had endeavoured' to cater for them as much as possible but would like to go further and effect more improvements, including a cook-house. Councillor Halligan, continuing, said he had brought the matter up before Council, and thought the Association would make a move. He would like to sec the improvements made by December. The chairman (Dr. E. Porritt) said the executive was sympathetic. He thought the Association would be willing to help as much as possible ano asked if it yrere possible for members of motor associations to secure a rebate in the park charges. Councillor Halligan: I understand wo are the cheapest now. It was suggested that the charge be not more than one shilling a day for members.
Councillor Halligan stated that £l5O had been spent towards erecting a idining room for local citizens and visitors at the park. Dr. Porritt: I think it will be a model camp site when the impovements have been finishedCouncillor Read said that the Council recognised the park was an asset anri; an advertisement for the city. “The more popular we can make it,” he said, “the better it will be for the community. The additional attractions will be borne in mind and will be added to from time to time. ’ ’ The business of the deputation closed with the assurance by the chairman that the Association would assist the Council as much as possible.
