ADVANCEMENT
TRAINING YOUNG MEN NIGHT v. DAY CLASSES At the Wanganui Technical College last evening, when medals and certificates were presented to trades apprentices studying at evening classes, some of the speakers ‘ ‘ crosed swords ’ ’ on the subject of night classes as against day classes for tuition. Tho Mayor (Mr W. J. Rogers) expressed the opinion that day classes should be established in order to train apprentices, who would so be enabled to study in the employer’s time- After the day’s work the mind was not always retentive. Mr A. G. Bignell, chairman of the Wanganui Harbour Board in giving some helpful advice to the boys, combatted the idea that boys were too tired in the evening to attend at the Technical College, and he did not agree with the advocacy of day classes. A boy would never get anywhere unless he was prepared to do extra work, and? he was much better at a technical school class than looking at trashy American pictures.
