The John is due back on November 12 from Lyttelton and Wellington. Messrs Johnston and Co. report:— The Arapawa is expected from Onehunga on November 18. GENERAL NEWS. ATHENIC LEAVES BALBOA. Cabled news has been received by the Shaw-Savill Company that the Athenic enroute from Liverpool to Auckland, left Balboa on Friday evening. The vessel is due at Auckland on November 25. She also carries cargo for discharge at Wellington, Lyttelton, and Port Chalmers.

AUSTRALIND FROM NEW YORK. Under charter to the A. and 77. Line the steamer Australind is scheduled to reach Auckland from New York to-morrow. Her case oil and general merchandise cargo is for discharge at Auckland,* Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin.

NORFOLK REPORTS. Wireless advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the Federal Line steamer Norfolk states she will arrive at Auckland from Liverpool at daybreak tomorrow. The vessel is bringing general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain. She will unload at Auckland, Napier. Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. THE PORT HARDY. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hardy,, which is due at Auckland from London on Friday, will also unload at Wellington. Subsequently the vessel is to commence loading at Bluff on November 26 for New York, Boston, Halifax and London. She will return to Auckland to complete loading, and is scheduled to leave the latter port for New York on December 14. HOME STEAMERS. The Arawa is to Liverpool on December 13 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on January 20. The Tamaroa is to leave Southampton on November 11 for Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Wellington on December 17, and at Auckland a week later. The Tairoa, bound from London to Australia, passed the Cape of Good Hope on October 20. She is to load Homeward in New Zealand. SHIPPING RETURNS. Figures compiled by the Registrar-General of Shipping and Seamen show that 35 steamers of 32,688 tons gross, were added to the register of the United Kingdom in June, but the registers were closed of 23 steamers of 102,389 tons gross. It will thus be seen that, as far as steamers and motor vessels are concerned, the removals exceeded the additions by 45.591 tons gross. It should be pointed out that practically the whole of the vessels added were new, while of the boats sold most were over 20 years of age.
