COOK’S GARDENS FUNCTION

PEACE DAY COMMEMORATION School Children Will Stage Monster Athletic Sports Gathering There have been many large gatherings at sports fixtures on Cook’s Gardens in the past, bat that which will be seen on the terraces on Friday next is sure to be one of the largest, judging from the interest being evidenced in the big sports gathering which is to be staged by the Wanganui Primary Schools’ Amateur Athletic Associations. The first event in a lengthy pro gramme. will take place at 10 am. and refreshments will be supplied to children in charge of teachers, thus enabling scholars to “make ad ayo f it.” A list of the entrants for the events, together with details of the programme, is published this mor-ping

In order that all arrangements may work smoothly all teachers and officials are requested to bring the following points before pupils:— Boys assemble at pavilion on town side. Girls assemble at opposite pavilion. Listen for events as announced by call stewards. Only competitors allowed on sports area. Competitors to leave running tracks immediately their race is over. Winners must present their cards without delay at the office of the secretary. If each competitor is provided by his teacher with a card showing his or her events, and the time each takes place, fewer races will be missed.

Schools are recommended to bring a pennant representing their school colours, the same to be hoisted to show the relative positions of the various schools in the finals. Prior to 11 o’clock a signal will be given to all on the grounds to be in readiness for the observance of the two minutes’ silence in memory of our gallant dead.
