RANGITIKEI CRICKET ASSOCIATION. [ Special *' Chronicle ” Servian- J The committee met on Monday evening, there being present—Messrs H. F. Arkwright (chairman), R. D. Kerr, J. H. C. Broad, D. Cameron, R. C. Ball, T. Lyon, A. Bowick, S. W. Miller, and A. Meyers (secretary). The Marton District High School Cricket Club was voted £1 Is towards equipment. The Wellington Cricket Association wrote, suggesting December 23 and 24 as dates for this year’s Town v. Country match, which were agreed to. At the next conference of associations in the Plunket Shield districts, to be held in Wellington on November 12, Mr C. G. Wilson was appointed to represent Rangitikei. In reply to a request from the New Zealand Cricket Council for an expression of opinion as to hours for playing cricket on account of the Summer Time Act, it was decided that play for championship matches shall commence at I. p.m. and stumps will be drawn at 7 p.m. In the case of matches played by the Porewa Club stumps are to be drawn at 6.30 p.m. unless both clubs have completed their first innings, in that case play goes on till 7 p.m. The Manawatu Cricket Association wrote agreeing to play Rangitikei at Palmerston North on December 7 and 8. The Feilding Cricket Association agreed to play Rangitikei at Marton on January 23. The Wanganui Cricket Association wrote, agreeing to play an “A” team at Marton on December 26 and 27, the match to commence at 11 a.m. on the first day and stumps to be called at 7 p.m. on each day, with a “B” team match to be arranged later on in the season. The Manawatu Cricket Association wrote agreeing to play the Hawke Cup elimination match at Palmerston North on December 7 and 8. Rangitikei will play Taihape at Taihape on November 19, play commencing at 10.30 a.m. Mr R. C. Ball was selected a member of the committee. GENERAL NEWS. At the Marton Court on Tuesday morning, before Mr H. Y. Cameron, J. Anton Anderson was convicted on a charge of drunkenness and ordered to pay costs. BURGLARIES AT MARTON Burglaries are becoming prevalent in Marton, and early on Monday morning the residence of Mr Smith m North Broadway was entered and a quantity of clothing taken.

The theft is similar to those recently reported, the thief entering the bedroom when the family was asleep and taking clothing from a wardrobe within two yards of the bed. The clothing was found in a hedge nearby. A man supposed to have been the thief was accosted by the night watchman, but upon the latter disclosing his identity the man made off with the watchman in pursuit. The police wore informed and a search instituted, but with no result. BAILWAY AMBULANCE TEST The folowing members of Marton Junction railway staff have passed the first-aid examination conducted under the rules of St. John Ambulance Association: Messrs M. C. Baike, E. E. Beuck, G. H. Blockley, J. E. Foote, F. Haw, J. B. Gordon, W. N. Wakeling, W. R. Roulston, S. J. McKenzie, J. W. McLaren, A. S. McCaffrey, F. W. McElwain, R. H. T. Moore and W. Stafford. Dr. Harpur acted as examiner and Dr. Hick as lecturer to the class prior to the examination. THE QUEEN CARNIVAL Miss Jessie Baker, Marton, has been selected and has consented to act as the Town and Sports candidate in connection with the Park Lighting Queen Carnival to be held on November 22.
