A NARROW MARGIN WABATAHS SHOULD HAVE WON EASILY. (A. & N.Z.) LONDON, Nov. 6. The match won by the New South Wales touring team was a popular fixture. Fifteen thousand people witnessed a fine, fast game, which the Waratahs should have won more readily. Their forwards got the ball from almost every scrummage, but Bowers and Ford spoiled many chances. The Services team included nine internationals. Tho half-time score was 6 to 3 in the Services’ favour, but the visitors, by strenuous play in the second half, made up tho leeway, and won by the narrow margin of two points.

ALL BLACK TOUR

MANAGER AND CAPTAIN CANDIDATES IN THE RUNNING [ Special “ CluvnieU ” Service. J WELLINGTON, Nov. 7. Ao question of the captain and the manager of the All Black team for South Africa will probably be determined at the end of the month. The general opinion in Rugby circles is that the captaincy lies between M. Brownlie, of Hawke’s Bay, and Lucas, of Auckland. Both these men have captained their provincial and club sides, and from the point of view of personal qualities it is felt that there could not be a better appointment than that of Brownlie. Lucas is fully expected to be given the vicecaptaincy. Both are seasoned men, and while neither is a great tactician, there are not any other players with the experience and ability of these two men offering.

The three chief candidates for the managership are Mr V. Meredith, for years Auckland’s sole selector and president, Mr E. McLeod, president of the Taranaki Rugby Union, and Mr W. Hornig, of the New Zealand Rugby Union Management Committee. A fourth candidate is Mr T. A. Fletcher, president of the Wellington Referees’ Association, and member of the management committees of both the New Zealand Bugby Union and the Wellington Rugby Union. It is expected that the appointident will lie between Mr Mcl eod and Mr Hornig, and Wellingt»n opinion is that Mr Hornig will be appointed.
