WANGANUI CELEBRATION YOUNG PEOPLE TO CELEBRATE The anniversary of the ending of the Great War is to be signalised in Wanganui by the holding of displays in which primary school children will take a very big place. The celebrations arc to take the form of athletic events, on Friday next, and a display on Saturday night in which all the bauds of Wanganui will take part. The sports will commence at Cook’s Gardens at 10 o’clock on Friday morning, and no fewer than 1800 children will compete for the Education Board’s banner, Cosmopolitan Club's banner, and valuable trophies presented by Messrs W. L. Young, T. Vangioni and Doull. The secretary (Mr J. McFceley) has arrangements will in hand and has the programme well arranged and timed. In order not to interfere with business on Friday night the continuation of the celebration has been deferred until Saturday night, when there will be dancing by Miss Swann’s pupils, exhibition of marching and counter marching by all the bands, as well as the school bands, athletic and cycling events, figure marching and physical drill by over 1000 children, under the direction of Mr Boydhouse. As a finale all the bands will bo assembled, and play a concluding item, under the conductorship of the organiser, Mr C. H. Warden, whilst fireworks will also be fired at the end of the programme.
