CHURCH SOCIAL I Special “ Chronicle ” Service. ] There was a good attendance at the toy gift evening given by the Ohakune Anglican Girls’ Guild, which was held in St. John’s Hall on Tuesday evening. The programme consisted of vocal items, dancing and competitions and a most enjoyable time was spent. The Guild gave a chorus item which was well received. Mrs D. Cunningham rendered a vocal solo in good style, and Mrs Sargison received a wellmerited encore for a recitation. The vocal trio by Misses Binning, Clemett and Wood was also greatly appreciated. Mrs Clanccy, Miss Wood and Miss Snooks played the dance music. The spot waltz was won by Mrs Dance and Miss Dance. The Monte Carlo waltz by Mrs Cosford and Mr L. Natin, and the card waltz by Mrs Sargison and Mr L. Natin. The competition was won by Mrs Cosford. PLUNKET SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the Waimarino branch of the Royal N.Z. Society for the Health of Woman and Children was held in the Plunket Rooms on Wednesday. There were present Mesdames Feetzer (president), Laming, Hussey, Colman, McGregor, Woodlock, Cronin, Miss Donald tarj’)Apologias were received from Mrs Feltham (Raetihi sub-branch) and Mrs E. P. Wood. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Thompson for a donation of £1 2s to the Society. The nurse’s report was as follows: Raetihi. —Old cases 145, new eases 4, total 149. Ohaknne.—Old cases 144, new cases 4; total 148. Horopito.—Old cases 21, new cases 4; total 25. Pokaka. —Old cases 26, new cases 1; total 27. Bangataua. —Old cases 24; new cases nil; total 24. The general health of the babies in the above districts is good. A DRY'MONTH The month of October was a dry one in comparison with other years, the rainfall totalled 4.84 in., nearly 2Jin. less than that recorded for the same month last year.
