SKY SCRAPERS OF GLASS
ARCHITECT’S PREDICTION THE VIOLET BAYS. NEW YORK, Oct. 15. Glass skyscrapers for America, is the prediction of William Orr Ludlow, New York Building Congress. Mr Ludlow propuses that glass shall take the place of stone in the construction of buildings, ami visualise skyscrapers scintillating with glass. The use of glass, he says, is lhe next logical step. There arc joy, life, and health giving properties in glass structures that are steel framed but glass sheathed. There is a new aesthetic opportunity offered in building with this material. There is reported to be one wealthy man who even now is considering placing on Ills land on Broadway the first grass skyscraper in the world. He plans to utilise its. amazing possibilities for advertising at night, in place of the mere throwing of a switch shaft of colour. The architect called attention to a new quartz glass which allows actinic or violet rays to pass through. He says that since many Americans spend perhaps half their waking lives or more behind glass, the value of a new quartz glass that will let sun rays through unhindered is obvious.
