The trophy is to be known as the “Farmers’ Trading Co. (Auckland) Cup,” and after ten years the trophy will become the property of the club which has won it the most times during that period. The donors were accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

It was decided to start the competi tions next Thursday, November 3. Th< draw is as follows:—Moawhango v

Colts at Moawhango; Taihape v. Colts at Taihape on November 3; Taihape v. Moawhango at Taihape on November 5; Taihape v. Colts (completed) at Taihape on November 10; Taihape v. Moawhango (completed*) on November 12.

A letter was received from the Rangitikei Cricket Association asking for a match wi h Taihape at Taihape on November 19. The request was granted and the match will be played on the date mentioned.

It was resolved that each club plav either one whole day or two half-day matches.

A motion was unanimously carried advising the secretary (Air J. Dripps) to write to the clubs affiliated with association asking them not to play unfinancial members and intimating that no such members will be available for representative fixtures. The following were elected a selection committee:—Messrs G. Chrystall (Moawhango). A. Beale (Taihape) arid J. Dripps (Colts). CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP The Wellington Provincial Championship clay pigeon shoot held yesterday on the Taihape Recreation grounds, was won by H. Quarterman (Taihape), the present New Zealand champion. The winner shot the possible (21 birds) nd only had occasion to use his second barrel on three occasions, namely for his second, seventh and twenty first birds. -E. Groome also shot the possible but he was not eligible to compete for the championship. He used the second barrel for his thirteenth'and twenty first birds. A. Dobson (20 birds) and T. J’arker (19 birds) were also ineligible for championship honours. Dobson missed his ninth bird and hail occasion to use his second barrel twice. Parker missed his eight and ninth birds and got his eleventh with the second bar rel. J. Beard, J. Ormond and C. E. Brown were runners for the Wellington Provincial Championship with 20 birds each. Beard missed his tenth bird, but

secured all th.> rest with his first barrel. Ormond missed his last bird and had

occasion to use the second barrel three times. Brown missed his fourth bird. He only used the second barrel once. Duncan and McLachlan (19 birds each) were next to the runnes-up. Details are as follows:

The contest was held in fine weather and as the scores indicate some excellent performances were recorded. Besides securing the gold medal for the winner of the championship H. Quarterman divided the sum of £23 2s with E. Groome who, although not eligible for the championship, was able to compel? for the stake money attach-

ed thereto, as were, also A. Dobson and T. Parker. For securing 20 birds C. E. Brown. J. Beard, A. Dobson and J. Ormond each received one guinea. At the conclusion of the shot Mr A. Dobson congratulated Mr H A. Quarterman on winning the Wellington Provincial Championship and said the winner was almost invincible in clay pigeon shooting as he (Mr Quarterman) had won the Wellington Provincial Championship in 1925 and again this year; the North Island championship in 1926 and the New Zealand championship in 1927. (Loud applause). Continuing the speaker said Mr Quarterman’s record shows what a great clay pigeon shot he is. Mr Dobson then presented Mr Quarterman with a handsome gold medal and called for

After the applause had subsided Air Quarterman returned thanks, stating that tht medal he had received was one of the nicest he had ever seen and he was pruud to become its owner. After congratulating the Taihape Gun Club on its excellent organisation of the meeting Air Quarterman called for cheers for the runners-up and his appeal met with instantanc-ous response.

Some of the best shots in New Zealand competed at the meeting and included amongst the competitors were the foilowing:—Air H. A. Quarterman, present N.Z. clay pigeon shot champion, whose record has been previously mentioned; Mr A. Dobson, who has won the N.Z. live pigeon championship twice, the N.Z. clay pigeon championship once, the N.Z. sparrow championship once, and the aggregate championship of the three: Air T. Parker, ex-N.Z. live pigeon shot champion; Air E. Groome, who has won the live pigeon and sparrow championships of New Zealand; Air C. E. Brown (Palmerston North), ex-New Zealand sparrow shot champion, and Air D. McLachlan, who has won the New Zealand clay pigeon championship.
