Marumaru with a net score of 69, her card reading 105—36—69. GENERAL NEWS. The Bulls B school football team played Parewanui at Bulls on Monday afternoon, the Bulls team winning easily by 18 points to 3. Scorers for Bulls [were S. Harris, C. Duncan (3), and L. Ransom two tries, while S. Young notched Parewanui’s only try. The fortnightly euchre party in aid of the Bulls School funds will be held on Friday evening. Bulls seniors travelled to Ohingaiti on Saturday to play the local football team, the game resulting in a draw, six points all. J. Timmins, who is playing good football at present, scored a try and kicked a penalty goal for Bulls. It has been decided to hold the Oddfellows’ annual ball on July 29, and Marton Premier Orchestra has been engaged for the occasion. Mr. Rowland Thompson left on Monday for Rotorua to attend the N.D.A. and Dairy Companies’ Secretaries Conference. Mr. and Mrs. J. Forrest arc visitors to Bulls. TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs J. E. Walker (chairman), C. 11. Broughton, V. Edhouse, F. A. Holland, T. Ellery, W. E. Robbie, and the town clerk. It was resolved to request the contractors for Mansell’s buildings to repair the damaged culvert in High Street, which was a danger to the public, particularly on evenings when entertainments were held in the Town Hall. The foreman was appointed inspector to see that overhanging hedges were clipped back. The chairman reported having written to the Wanganui Hospital Board and to the Rangitikei County Council regarding the proposed transfer to the Palmerston North Hospital area, but no replies had yet been received. Possibly the letters had missed their meetings.

Mr. Holland reported that a hot point had been installed temporarily at the Town Hall for use at balls, parties, etc. It was agreed to donate £1 to the Bulls School improvement fund. The clerk’s action in passing the plans of J. F. Flynn’s garage was approved.

The contractor (Mr. R. Mclntosh) was granted a progress payment of £l5O in connection with material supplied, and labour, on the Town Hall extension.

It was reported that only £7 10s had been collected in dog tax this year, and the collector is to be requested to institute a 4 4 round-up” immediately. A. ratepayer asked for a footpath to be repaired, the damage being done by tree roots from the applicant’s property, and offering to assist.—As this nuisance was general the Board declined to create a precedent, but granted permission for the roots to be cut, provided the footpath was repaired to the Board’s satisfaction.

Credit balances were shown as follows: District fund £383 8s 7d; cemetery £34 3s 8d; library £42 9s Od; Domain £24. Receipts: Town Hall £24 18s 6d, petrol bowsers £2O, Library £5 Is 6d, cemetery £2, motor licenses £33 10s. Accounts passed for payment: District fund £217 14s; cemetery £1 10s, Library £2 12s. It was resolved to authorise the Library Committee to spend a further £6 in new books.

The Hall Committee was empowered to arrange for the purchase of crockery, spoons, etc., for the Town Hall supper room. “THE SEA BEAST.” John Barrymore in “The Sea Beast” comes to the Bulls Town Hall this evening. The picture, adapted from Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” and produced by Warner Brothers under the direction of Millard Webb, has been acclaimed as the most important photoplay of the year. It deals with the New England whalers of 1840 who, in their clipper ships, carried the American flag over the seven seas. It is said to have done for this heroic, chapter in American history what “The Covered Wagon” did for the Western pioneers and 44 The Iron Horse” did for the building of the railroads.
