AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS
WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION. Mrs. Duxfield presided over the monthly meeting of the Wanganui East Women’s Christian Temperance Union held at St. Alban’s Church. Miss Satison led the devotional exercises. Miss Sutton reported 41 names on the Cradle Roll—an advance of seven since last meeting. It was decided to attend with the Central Union a meeting at Aramoho on July 4 to celebrate White Ribbon Day. Mrs. Black was welcomed as a member from Masterton, and Mesdames Duxfield, McLeod and Brown with Miss Black were appointed delegates to attend the Convention at Hawera on June 27. It was decided to hold a jumble sale and food fair in St. Alban’s Hall on Saturday, July 9. The president read an article on Prohibition in America by Monsignor Cassidy, Pastor of St. Patrick’s Church, Fall River, Mass., Vicar-General of the Fall River Diocese.
