TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. [ Special " Chronicle ” Service. ] The seven-a- side tournament organised by the Te Kawau Sub-Union was held at Oroua Downs on Saturday. There was a large attendance and the competition was keen and interesting, most of the games being evenly contested, tho only competition that was easily won being the Schools, Rongotea being in a class of their own, being heavier and faster than any of their opponents. Results of the games are as follows: Schools.—Oroua Downs 3, Sandon 0; Rongotea 11, Rangiotu 0; Oroua Downs 8, Awahuri 0; Rongotea 12, Oroua Downs 0. Third Grade.—Huia A 6 v. Huia Mai A 3; Central 0 v. Awahuri 0. An extra spell was played, the former winning by one force down. Hui Mai B 3 v. Huia B 0; Huia A 9 v. Central 0. Final: Huia A 10, v. Hui Mai B 3. Junior. —Oroua Downs A 9 v. Huia A. 0; Huia Mai 6 v. Awahuri 0; Oroua Downs A 6 v. Oroua Downs B 3; Hui Mai 3 v. Central 0. Final: Oroua Downs A v. Hui Mai. T*his was another fast even game and extra time had to be played to decide the winners, the only score, a force down well in the fourth spell, giving Oroua Downs the honour. Senior. —Awahuri 8 v. Central 3; Oroua Downs A 3 v. Hui Mai 0; Awahuri 3 v. Oroua Downs B 0. Final: Oroua Downs A 6 v. Awahuri 0. This was another hard fought even contest and not so one-sided as the score would indicate. The Awahuri team wero unlucky and lost the services of one of their best backs in the game against Oroua Downs B. The winners deserved the victory, much of their success being due to Rex MeKelvie, who played a sterling game. Te Kawau v. Oroua.
