SUPPLIES FOR NEW ZEALAND [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 20. The statement that the Government was alive to the necessity of ensuring for the Dominion ample supplies of wheat and flour at economic prices was made by the Prime' Minister, when briefly touching on the proposed revision of the tariff, in the course of au address at tho chamber of Commerce luncheon. Mr Coates said that until the Tariff Commission had considered the evidence it had taken and had made recommendations to the Government concerning the incidence of Customs taxation, he must regard the matter as being sub judice. The Government, however, had announced its intention of seeking the authority of Parliament to raise the duty on flour imported from Australia £3 to £4 a ton. All the factors concerned—growers, millers and consumers—had to be considered ,and he could say that the Government was quite conversant with the position of the consumers aud their rights.
