Messrs Andrew Weir and Co., of London. ] have contracted with Messrs Harland and I Wolff, Belfast, for the building of two more shallow draft twin-screw tank steamers. They are to be 315 ft in length and 50ft in breadth and of 2300 tons gross. They will be fitted with triple expansion engines, and will burn oil fuel. The company has also purchased the xsor»egian motor ship Lidvard (which has been renamed the Dunafric), and the Folkvard and Landvard. The purchase price is reported to be about £85,000. The death of Captain K. O. Niuman, a prominent figure «n New Zealand coastal shipping for many years, occurred at his residence, Fonsonby (Auckland), on May 4. Captain Niuman, who was 65 years of age, came to New Zealand from Finland 40 years ago. For a long period he was in the service of James Smith and Co., while for some time he owned and ran the schooner Hercules and the keteh Coronation. Although Captain Niuman,. in the course of his career, plied to most of the ports on the New Zealand coast, he was familiar with the run between Auckland and , Whangarei. Messrs C. F.
