“TO THE ORIGINAL OWNERS”
Sir, —I notice that, at a meeting held lately of the different local bodies, Mr W. Morrison, who was chairman of the meeting, suggested that the Government should subsidise the councils £1 for £1 towards the upkeep of the roads. I would suggest, instead, that the farmers be compensated to walk off their holdings and leave the land to its rightful owners, the pig and the pigeon. However, some people may talk about getting on the land, it is a well-known fact that, in many parts of our district, notably the Ruatiti block, it is nothing but slow starvation to attempt to carry on, knowing all tho time that it will end in failure. Hoping some abler pen than mine will take up this subject. K. M .WEST. May 23.
