The recent adventure of a Birmingham business man who was anxious to ffind capital to finance an industrial undertaking has been described in the Daily Mail in the hope that it may warn others against loss. An advertisement brought a reply from a West End agent who offered to provide £lOO,OOO from a French source subject to the payment of certain fees. The Birmingham man, his valuer and the agent wept to Paris, •where they met another Frenchman, who took them to a firm of financiers, described as ex- ; bankers, who approved the proposals. ' The French agent asked for £5OO, “to pay for a technical report on the property,” but the Birmingham visitor agreed to pay £lOO and a second £lOO later.
