DEMONSTRATION FARM
SOUTHERN HAWKE’S BAY REQUEST [Per Press Association.] DANNEVIRKE, May 20. The Minister of Agriculture was waited upon by mebers of the Southern Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union and the Dannevirke A. and P. Society, who asked for assistance towards the establishment of a idjemonstration farm in Southern Hawko’s Bay. The Minis.ter gave no definite answer but said that h,£ considered the present method of instruction by officers of the Field Division less expensive and mure beneficial than demonstration farms. As regards herd testing he held out some hope of financial assistance being acordjed by the Dominion Herd Testing Federation. He said that the Government had no power to interfere with regard to the increase in the bank rates, and he was in favour of a portion of the proceeds of the Howard bequest being devoted by the trustees to the Agricultural College at Palmerston North for research in matters regarding meat and wool.
