TAIHAPE SHOPS GUTTED GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADE (Special to ‘ Chronicle.”) TAIHAPE, May 21. Three shops in Hautapu Street, the (principal street of Taihape, were gullied by fire at a late hour last night, land the fourth was saved only by the jgood work of the Fire Brigade. I The outbreak originated in Mrs L. I Al. .McLaughlin’s marble bar about 11 Ip.m. and quickly spread to Low Hing’s ! laundry and A. Millar’s boot shop. Fortunately there was a brick wall be- ; tween these premises and the fourth shop, A. B. Swedlund’s music store, but the biulding and contents suffered ■by smoke and water. Pianos, grama- ! phones, and other articles of stock were moved into the Town Hall nearby. At midnight the fire was just dying down. ! The buildings which wore old and of | wood, were owned by James Williams, of Taihape. __
