DAYLIGHT RECEPTION OF CANBERRA OPENING. The following letter was received by Messrs Radio Limited, Auckland, from Mr Alorton Coutts, Taihape:— Taihape, 12th AFay, 1927. With regard to reception of Canberra broadcast: The items were picked up by Air J. Bartosh. Taihape, on a Coun-ter-phase Eight Receiver. He commenced listening at about 11.45 a.m. and picked up 2BL immediately. Ho heard them describing tho Federal Hall and the position of the different statesmen clearly, then the opening spco*h by the Duke was heard, followed by bugle calls. They listened to Sydney all the afternoon, they (Sydney) going on with the ordinary programme later. The broadcast was heard clearly all over tho house, using a Rola speaker. Air Bartosh says he gets Sydney every afternoon on his Eight, he also said he picked up 27 American stations the first Sunday he tried tho set. I heard tho set on one occasion and New York and Chicago were just as clear as IYA, Auckland. ” Messrs Radio Limited also state in their accompanying letter that several Auckland listeners also picked up the Canberra broadcast during tho afternoon on Counter-phase receivers. In our opinion this is a vqry wonderful performance and it certainly substantiates the claim that Counter-phase is the “Rolls-Royce” of present day radio.
