BANK-NOTE FORGERS
FORTY ARRESTS IN ATHENS POLICE FINGEB-PRINT RUSE. ATHENS, April 20. Forty persons have been arrested by the police here, and charged with forging stamps and British one-pound and five-pound notes. According to the newspapers, among those arrested are an Italian couple, of whom the husband has served,' a sentence in Paris for a similar offence. The manner of the arrest was like a film scene. Two officials arrested the Italian and his wife at a dancing hall. The police were disguised as waiters, and carried champagne to the two accused, who left their finger-prints on the glasses. A laboratory has been discovered in which were a number of machines for forging notes. The London and,* Par’.’ police are said to have asked the Athens police for further information. The stamps forged were those used for the Public Debt, and the Greek Government had already called the attention of the International Commission to the fact that they coul 1 easily be forged.
