MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY PRESENT
My dear children. What do you say to making mother a pretty little dressing jacket. You can make one out. of two patterned handkerchiefs, each about thirty inches square. Lay them both together, stitch along the top edges for eight inches from each side, and fasten off neatly Now find the exact middle of the front handkie, slit it down for five inches and bind each of these cut edges with pretty-coloured ribbon; this will make two attractive little revers—as you ’ll see, if you look at the drawing. Next you’ll want four pieces of ribbon, each piece about fifteen inches long. Measure down from the shoulder
seams for twelve inches on each handkie, and sew a length of ribbon at each point; this makes the ties at the sides. Toe the ribbons together in pretty bows, and that’s all!
I’m sure mother will be pleased with her present, if you choose pretty handkies and make all the stitches very small! Of course, if you prefer, you could use squares of printed material instead of the handkies, and either hem all the edges neatly, or else bind them with ribbon to match the side tie-ups.
