THE BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP
MAKING A BEDSIDE TABLE Materials required for the useful bedaide table shown here are few and simple; they can be obtained at very small cost. You need: Two pieces of wood, each 24 inches long, 4 inches wide, 4 inch thick. (A in diagram). One pieec of round wood (broomhandle would do nicely), 3 feet long, inch diameter. (B in diagram.) One piece of wood 2 inches square. 24 inches long. (C in diagram). One piece of plywood 18 inches square. (D in diagram). Three strips of plywood, each 18 inches long, 2 inches wide. (E in diagram.) One piece of wood 22 inches long, 2 inches square. (F in diagram.) First screw the two pieces (A) underneath the part C; then bore a hole at one end for the broomhandlc, fix it with glue and a screw, as indicated in sketch, thus completing the stand. Make the tray with the large square of
plywood (D), by glueing and pinning the smaller pieces (E) to three of its aides. Now screw the tray to the cross bar F. About 2 inches from the left end of the bar, bore a circualr hole so that it will slide nicely over the broomhandle; then bore several holes about i inch diameter through the upright B to receive a wooden peg, by which means the table can be adjusted to any desired height. Finish bv giving the stand and the bar F one or more coats of paint, but leave the upright plain, or merely stained, because if the tray needed frequent adjustment the paint’ would be rubbed off.
