THE ADVENTURES OF POLLY, PETER AND WALLABY

Polly, Richard and Gwendoline are very pleased with themselves—for this reason: Strolling quitetly down the road the other day they came across a notice on the wall. It was about a lost diamond brooch, and a big reward was offered for its recovery. Now they wanted a new wireless set ever so badly. ‘‘l wish we could find the brooch,” said Richard, ‘‘then we could buy the wireless set.” ‘‘l wish we could,” answered Gwendoline.

The three chums desired the wireless set very much indeed? “It would be very nice if we could find the brooch and get the reward,' ’ said Polly, 4 ‘ but as we haven’t any idea where it is I don’t suppose we shall.” ‘‘Let’s sit down and think it out,” said Richard. No sooner had he sat down, however, than he flew up in the air with a yell. “Whatever is the matter?” cried Polly, “have you got another idea?”

As it happened, the three chums were in great luck. “Something has bitten me,” cried Richard. Polly and Gwendoline turned Richard round to see what had bitten him, and behold! there was the brooch sticking to him—Richard had sat on it! ‘ ‘ Why, it’s the brooch, ’ ’ said Polly. “Don’t be too sure,” said Richard. “It may not be the right one.” “Anyway, we’ll take it to the owner and find out,” said Polly. “I’m sure it must be the right one,” cried Gwendoline. “Hurrah for the wireless! ’ ’

Off the chums flew to the address given on the notice. The lady invited them in and looked at the brooch. “Yes! it’s my brooch,” she said. “Thank you very much for finding it.” And then she handled five new pound notes to Richard. “What are you going to do with the money?” she asked. The chums told her all about the wireless set they wanted so badly, anc then ran out to purchase it.

Clutching the notes tightly in his paw, Richard ran along gleefully with Polly and Gwendoline “Isn’t it fine?” said Gwendoline. “Yes!” said Richard. “Fancy. Five pounds!” “We can get a loud speaker!” “Rather!” said Polly, “we ought to get a lovely set for all that money.” “I know the very set we want,” cried Richard. “My! we’ll have some fun now.”

Suddenly Richard saw another notice. “Why! here’s another notice,” he cried. “Perhaps there’s something else lost,” said Polly. Then they saw it was an appeal for wireless sets for children in hospital. “Ah well!” said Richard, “they need it more than we do. ' “We’ll buy our set and send it to the hospital. ’ ’ And that is what the three chums did. And now they feel very satisfied with themselves because their good action gave them as much pleasure a*> • the wireless set would have done.
